Lookout for scammers using white VW Polo

He warned that the suspects use different types of vehicles, but the white VW Polo with different number plates is the vehicle used most frequently.

Police received a complaint about a group of scammers using a white VW Polo with false registration of DR 40 XC GP.

Katlehong North SAPS media liaison officer Capt Lesetja Mathobela said the vehicle is used in robbery scams in the Katlehong North SAPS policing area.

He said the suspects involved are one African male with a big build and dark skin complexion.

His associates are two African females, one aged between 20 and 29 years, small built and light skin complexion, while the middle-aged woman is heavyset, dark in complexion and has dreadlocks.

According to Mathobela, these robbers gain their victim’s trust before robbing them.

“The younger female will scout an individual at an ATM and follow them,” said Mathobela.

“False money will be used to lure the unsuspecting victim into a vehicle then drive to the other female suspect. The male suspect will produce a false police appointment certificate to convince the victim,” he explained.

“The victim will be robbed of their cash, cellphones and other personal belongings. The robbers will then drop the victim off in another section,” said Mathobela.

He warned that the suspects use different types of vehicles, but the white VW Polo with different number plates is the vehicle used most frequently.

Mathobela urged residents to help police fight crime and arrest the suspects.
