Sgt Sibongile Mambana laid to rest

The sudden death of Vosloorus SAPS Sgt Sibongile Edna Mambana has left residents of the sprawling Kathorus township numb with grief.

According to the Vosloorus SAPS media liaison officer, Capt Piet Rossouw, Mambana died of a heart attack at the Botshelong Hospital on the morning of May 1.

“She had been admitted at the hospital the previous day after complaining of severe pain. It was while she was being processed for a Covid-19 test before she could be allocated a bed that she suffered a heart attack,” explained Rossouw.

Mambana’s death was received with shock by scores of Vosloorus residents, especially the elderly many of whom had interacted with her in her duties as the head of the local SAPS’ community social responsibility.

Her family, friends and work colleagues hailed Mambana as a warm and loving person who was dedicated to her family and to serving the community of Vosloorus.

She is survived by her two daughters, Nhlamulo and Katlego, together with her partner Amu Mabunda.

Mambana joined the SAPS in 1998 and over the years her dedication to her service to the local community saw her rise through the ranks. “I found her to be a caring and considerate person who was always ready to help and assist others in whatever way possible. She was very good with school children and the elderly in the community,” said Vosloorus CPF Tshepo Ndaba.

Rossouw, who has worked closely with Mambana, described her as a loyal and dedicated officer.

“She will be missed by my office as well as other officers who have worked with her in the past.
