Local author publishes new book

He said his target readership for the book is sports-loving people, particularly those who enjoy football the most.

Former teacher and local author Bethuel Matabole is excited to share the recent offering of his latest book titled Our Soccer.

During an interview with Kathorus MAIL last December, Matabole (62) shared his goal of publishing the book and returning to university to further his studies.

He described the book as a highlight or a little analysis about the positive development of South African sports, particularly focusing on soccer.

“The book reflects on how sports has evolved since the 1960s until now, the great positive transformation is evident and noticeable,” said Matabole.

“Most importantly, the transformation of soccer and other sports, in general, ended the long-standing gender issues of male and female sports,” he explained.

He said his target readership for the book is sports-loving people, particularly those who enjoy football the most.

“The main idea is that the book summarises soccer from a global perspective. The only barrier to that is that South Africa was admitted to the international status very late due to the apartheid laws and racial discrimination of the past,” he explained.

A physical copy of the book will cost R150.

The author enrolled for a postgraduate diploma in public management at Wits University this year. When asked how he is coping with the new way of learning online, he said he hardly has challenges with it.

“I’m the kind of person who was born to take and accept new exciting challenges. That’s why I managed to do well at Boston College the first time I was introduced to the ICT and the use of contemporary computer system at that advanced age,” he said.

He said he is pleased with his performance for this semester so far and looks forward to the second semester.

“I passed the tests and exams for modules that have been marked with a remarkable average of more than sixty. I aim to obtain an excellent end-of-the-year final mark,” said Matabole.

The author published his first book Alumni of 2016 while he was still a teacher at Edenridge High School in 2016. He never looked back since.

Other published books by Matabole include It’s up to you, Set Free, Life at Psychiatric hospital, Everyone deserves success, Passion for existence, Lesang bana, Se lahle Tshepo and Even the snail did reach the ark.

He expressed great confidence in this latest book, emphasising that soccer brings people together.

“I can assure you that the book is a must-read. I can guarantee its authenticity, high quality and well-informed research,” said Matobole.
