Beauty pageant gives back on Freedom Day
“The purpose was to get to know them,” said Khumalo.
The Mr and Miss East Rand (MMER) beauty pageant celebrated Freedom Day with food donations to children at Senza Community Crèche in Villa Liza, Boksburg, on April 27.
The finalists gathered to make donations to one of the unprivileged crèches as part of their East Rand food drive campaign.
The campaign aims to fight poverty among communities in the East Rand.
Founder of MMER Nonhlanhla Dalasile said the goal was to celebrate Freedom Day by making a donation to the crèche while teaching the models about social responsibility.
“They are now getting up to speed as they are starting their own campaigns, volunteering and getting involved in community work,” said Dalasile.
One of the campaigns is the Villa Rise campaign by Nonhlanhla Ndhlozi, a food drive that aims to fight poverty and restore the dignity of children in her community. Another campaign is the Beauteen Pad Drive by Andile Khumalo.
Khumalo said she enjoyed her day playing with children.
“The purpose was to get to know them,” said Khumalo.
