Heidelberg taxi driver arrested after 12 years

Through investigations by Det Sgt Happy Kubheka and Det Sgt Musa Maluleke, as well as information received from the community, led police to arrest the suspect.

A 40-year-old taxi driver was arrested for an alleged house robbery along Denne Avenue in Extension 23, Ratanda, on April 15.

He was arrested at 7.30am while operating a local taxi. Heidelberg SAPS media liaison officer Capt Thivhulawi Tshilate said the suspect was immediately taken to appear before the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court.

“His case was remanded on April 15. No bail was granted. He will appear again in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court on April 22 for a formal bail application,” said Tshilate.

The suspect has been is arrested for a crime he committed 12 years ago.

In 2008 he and a colleague robbed a 60-year-old woman and her husband.

The suspects went to the house where the old woman was selling Pampers nappies. On arrival, they allegedly produced a knife, threatened to kill the victims before taking an undisclosed amount of cash, jewellery and three cellphones.

They ran away in an unknown direction. Through investigations by Det Sgt Happy Kubheka and Det Sgt Musa Maluleke, as well as information received from the community, led police to arrest the suspect.

The Heidelberg SAPS station commander, Col Phiwe Ndwandwe, praised the work of the detectives and the community’s partnership that led to the arrest of the suspect.
