WATCH: Angry Leondale residents protest due to ongoing power outages

They burned tyres and barricaded the main roads and blocked entrances to Leondale with rocks.

Leondale residents took their frustrations to the streets on Friday morning, April 9 to block roads with burning tyres.

The reason for them to protest is that they were left without electricity for about three days.

According to DA PR, Clr Kade Guerreiro residents demand power once and for all with no more power problems.

Guerreiro said he is unhappy with the state of ward 40 Leondale and wants service delivery and the needs of residents to improve.

“We are still waiting for the department to give us answers and restoration times. Emails have been sent to the ward Cllr, the mayor and the city manager asking for urgent help and attention on this matter. Unfortunately, we are still waiting for a reply,” he said.

Guerreiro added businesses and residents are experiencing huge financial losses

“Three days without power, the Leondale businesses and residents are experiencing huge financial losses with food going off and production grinding to a halt.”

“Ekurhuleni needs to fix these mass power outages once and for all by ensuring our grid is maintained and updated to handle the large amounts of residents,” added Guerreiro.
