“Covid-19 helped me realise how important it is for people to live a healthy lifestyle."

A passionate fitness instructor initiated her fitness club at her home in Siluma, Katlehong, after realising the importance of a healthy lifestyle.

The founder of T-Fit Fitness Club, Nokuthula Sibiloane (32), started the club in May to help people in her community to live a healthy lifestyle. They focus on aerobics, boot camps and healing sessions.

Sibiloane has always been a fitness bunny. She started training as a jogger and helped people to train at Siluma Tennis Courts in 2012, while playing volleyball till May when she decided to host her classes.

The club has 33 members who they train at Khumalo Valley behind Sontonga Mall between 8am to 9.30am on weekends and 5pm to 6.30pm from Monday to Thursday.

“Covid-19 helped me realise how important it is for people to live a healthy lifestyle because we lost a lot of people due to low immune systems, and people need to boost their immune system to gain more years of life.”

She said the lack of equipment did not stop her from opening the gym because there are innovative and creative ways to train even without the full training equipment or space.

“I started T-Fit Fitness Club at home in a double garage where we use music and homemade training equipment like fusion juice bottles with soil and water inside as dumbbells, five-litre oil bottles, car tyres and bricks as our step equipment.

“I believe that when you are serious, know what you want and am willing to listen to the coach, you will achieve the results you want. I’m really happy that my clients are happy with their results,” said Sibiloane.

On February 27 the club hosted an introductory aerobics fitness event to introduce themselves to the community. They received support from other fitness clubs around Kathorus, including Befit from Vosloorus, Gym-star from Germiston, Fitness Drip from Windmill Park and Impilo yethu, Skoks Fit Gym, Body Watchers, Metabolic Fitness, Tshepoet Fitness, Stay Active, Siyaphusha, and Zinakekele Fitness Club from Katlehong.

T-Fit Fitness Club anticipates hosting another event in May.

Goals for the club

Sibiloane aims to grow the gym to influence more people to live a healthy lifestyle and get sponsors on board to assist them with equipment and building a local gym where people can exercise safely.

“I want to own a real gym in the township. I don’t want people to only see those fancy gyms in town, they should also have one locally,” said Sibiloane.

She said at the moment they are pushing to host events and introduce the club to the public.

Various fitness clubs from around Kathorus came in numbers to support T-Fit Fitness Club on their first event.
