165 suspects arrested over Easter holidays

Among the arrested suspects was one male who was arrested for a gruesome murder case. He allegedly used a sharp object to stab the victim on the upper body during an argument.

The police arrested at least 165 suspects for various charges during their Easter operation around Ekurhuleni west, between April 2 to 4.

According to the Ekurhuleni District Zone 4 communication officials Sgt Daphney Phooko and Cst Sivenkosi Mtwa, Ekurhuleni West District Police joined forces with other law enforcement agencies to embark on several operations.

All major roads and hot spot areas were painted blue as police officers enforced disaster management under level one regulations, and monitoring compliance.

They conducted stop and searches, VCP’s, compliance of liquor traders and crime prevention visibility in hotspots areas.

Suspects were arrested for murder, rape, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm and assault common (which includes domestic violence), interference on police duties, malicious damage to property, housebreaking, theft, fraud, possession of suspected stolen property and motor vehicle.

Suspects were also arrested for shoplifting, intimidation, public indecency, selling liquor without a liquor licence and possession of and dealing in drugs.

Motorists were issued fines while others were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

“Among the arrested suspects was one male who was arrested for a gruesome murder. This is after it was alleged that the suspect argued with the victim and he then allegedly used a sharp object to stab the victim in the upper body.

“The victim succumbed to injuries and was found lying on the street at South Boundary Street at Rondebult,’’ said Mtwa.

The suspect aged 23 was later found with spatters of blood on his clothes. He was taken to custody for the alleged murder.

All arrested suspects are expected to appear in various courts including Palm Ridge, Germiston and Edenvale magistrate’s courts soon.
