35 suspects arrested over the Easter weekend in Katlehong

Twenty of the 35 suspects were arrested for drinking and driving.

Katlehong North SAPS arrested at least 35 suspects over the Easter weekend for crimes including murder, common assault, assault with grievous bodily harm, contravention of court orders and drunk driving at Katlehong.

The arrests were a result of different operations conducted around the station’s vicinity. The operation included the tracing and arresting of all wanted suspects by detectives and a joined operation with the SAPS and EMPD.

All roads and hot spot areas were under patrol as police tried to enforce the Disaster Management Act under alert level one regulation and ensure public compliance.

According to Katlehong North SAPS media liaison officer Capt Lesetja Mathobela, 20 of the 35 suspects were arrested for drinking and driving.

All the arrested suspects appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court on April 6.

The station commander, Col Raymond Buthelezi, commended the police members for arresting the suspects. He also encouraged the police to work with the community to make the area safe for everyone.
