Vosloorus man arrested, three AK47s and one R5 rifle confiscated

The suspect is expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court soon.

A multi-disciplinary investigation, comprised of the Department of Community Safety (CPF) and the police, led to the arrest of a 39-year-old suspect at the N3 Petroport garage in the Zonkizizwe area on March 20 for possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.

According to Zonkezizwe SAPS communications officer Sgt Rufus Tema, the team was following information that led them to the garage where they waited for the suspect.

When the suspect arrived, police approached and searched his vehicle.

“The police found two rifles with ammunition. Further investigation led the team to the suspect’s house in Vosloorus where two more rifles, ammunition and a jamming device were confiscated. The suspect was immediately arrested for possession of illegal firearms and ammunition,” said Tema.

The newly appointed Zonkizizwe SAPS station commander, Lt-Col Risenga Albert Chauke, applauded the members for the great work.

“I appreciate the good job the members have done. We appeal to the community to come forward with information to help police retrieve illegal firearms,” he said.

The firearms, three AK47s and one R5 rifle will be taken for ballistic testing to determine their involvement in other criminal activities.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
