Gauteng provincial commissioner Lt-Gen Elias Mawela led an Okae Molao Operation which resulted in the recovery of three vehicles and the arrest of 11 undocumented individuals in Vosloorus on February 11.

The operation saw police implement roadblocks in various areas, including Bierman and Barry Marais roads, to enforce the law and the adjusted level three lockdown regulations provincially.

The operation started an internal meeting at 6am at Vosloorus SAPS.

Mawela said they decided to come to Vosloorus because it is one of the contributing stations in terms of serious and violent crime.

“We are here to strengthen the arm of the commander and the district commissioner in asserting the authority of the state,” said Mawela.

He said they started on February 10 with raids, which resulted in detectives across the province arresting 913 wanted suspects, of which 150 were for gender-based violence.

“In this roadblock, we recovered three vehicles with engine and VIN numbers tampered with. We arrested eleven undocumented persons, which home affairs is processing.

“The other team which is operating in other parts of the township arrested four people for dealing in drugs. They also found stolen properties and ammunition. So far we think the operation is giving us desirable results,” he added.

Mawela said police will continue with the operation while they balance the crime-fighting efforts with enforcing the DMA regulations, as there are different teams assigned to various activities in the townships.

“For example, we are enforcing the Liquor Act. I am told one illegal shebeen was closed and lots of liquor has been confiscated.

“We will also enforce at the second-hand dealers so that we can check whether they comply with the laws of the land,” said Mawela.
