Rensburg community assists police with arrest of alleged drug dealer

Police found 14 ziplock bags containing drugs.

The Crime Prevention Unit of Heidelberg SAPS arrested a 35-year-old for two counts of alleged dealing in dagga and drugs, possession of drugs and illegal immigrant on Vos Street in Rensburg, Heidelberg, on January 25.

The team led by WO Johannes Lukas Wolmarans received information from the community about a man selling drugs as well as growing dagga in his yard.

Police proceeded to the mentioned address and was greeted by dagga plants all around the yard. They searched the suspect’s premises.

According to Heidelberg SAPS spokesperson Capt Thivhulawi Tshilate, the police found 14 ziplock bags containing drugs and uprooted dagga plants in the suspect’s yard and seized the drugs.

“Upon further investigation, when the police interviewed the suspect, it was detected that the suspect is a foreign national in the country without papers. He was immediately arrested,” said Tshilate.

The Heidelberg SAPS station commander, Col Phiwe Ndwandwe, congratulated police and the community on their partnership in the fight against crime, as well as removing drugs and dealers from the community.

The arrested suspect will appear in the Heidelberg Magistrate’s Court on January 27.
