WATCH: Thokoza Progressive Youth (TPY) bids farewell to 73 graduates

“Despite challenges arising from the pandemic, the organisation found innovative solutions to salvage the academic year and ensure sustainability post-Covid-19.”

Thokoza Progressive Youth (TPY) said farewell to 73 jovial graduates on December 5 at BNC Parish in Thokoza Extension Five.

Lebogang Makhura (18) from Katlehong was among the graduates who obtained a digital literacy personal development and plans qualification to continue her academic career with the institution.

“I completed digital literacy personal development. It was great and challenging at the same time. This pandemic really had me stressed, but I am happy I did not let it get in my way academically,” said Makhura.

Nineteen-year-old Nokuzola Buthelezi from Siluma View in Katlehong said it was a pity her parents could not attend her graduation due to financial problems, but she said there will be more qualifications until she is a qualified IT technician.

Buthelezi obtained a qualification in digital literacy and computer fundamentals and plans to proceed with her studies as she hopes to obtain the IT Fundamentals and A+ certificate next year.

“I’m very proud of myself. I was expecting the kind of results I achieved,” she said.

“Things weren’t easy and due to the pandemic, it was overwhelming because there was a lot of work and pressure, but it was all worth it. The short time I got to attend and the help from my facilitators made things easier for me. I just made sure not to miss out on any class and studied as hard as I could,” said Buthelezi.

CEO of TPY Mduduzi Tshabalala said that like any other institution, the TPY academic year has been negatively affected by the pandemic, as they had to close to adhere to lockdown regulations.

He said it gives the institution great pleasure to know they were able to assist so many students.
