MMC handover a R4-million park in Thokoza

According to Mabaso, Ekurhuleni mayor Mzwandile Masina could not make it to the unveiling due to a family emergency.

MMC for Environment Resources and Waste Management Services Makhosazana Mabaso unveiled the R4-million worth recreational park to the public, Shilakwe Park in Thokoza Extension Two.

The park is equipped with recreational facilities, such as gym equipment, swings, slides, a soccer pitch and bench with some indigenous games. A group of excited youngsters came early to enjoy the new park.

Mabaso said it took two years to finish the park because of the budget splits, but despite the challenges, they were excited to handover over the park to the residents.

“The total amount we spent is R4-m. That is why we are so proud to say we are here to open it to communities to utilise it, particularly the young people as you can see how happy they are,” said Mabaso.

The MMC mentioned the park will form part of the department’s maintenance areas to ensure it’s preserved and kept clean so that Thokoza residents can continue using it

“The open trench will be discussed in future planning or budget to look at how the department can invest. We want to extend somethings; the technical team will advise us on that,” said Mabaso.

According to Mabaso, Ekurhuleni mayor Mzwandile Masina could not make it to the unveiling due to a family emergency. As a result, the handover of Nyoni Regional Park in Bierman Road in Vosloorus has been postponed to December 15.
