WATCH: Commitment from Vosloorus SAPS leads to the arrest of GBV suspect

Vosloorus SAPS spokesperson Piet Rossouw commended the officers involved in the successful cases.

Vosloorus SAPS held a media briefing on December 1 to share cases it successfully solved.

This is in light of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign.
Det WO Abraum Mphele confirmed the arrest of Muzomuhle Zulu after he pleaded guilty in court. Zulu is sentenced to 15 years in prison for the murder of his girlfriend, Notsikelelo Mchunu from Vumbuka informal settlement in Vosloorus.

Investigations revealed that Zulu stabbed Mchunu 12 times and disposed of her body in the reservoir in Vosloorus Extension Nine. He then fled to Nkandla in KwaZulu-Natal.

According to Mphele, after three days in hiding, Zulu handed himself over to the Vosloorus SAPS and cooperated with the police after his brother advised him to do that.

“Zulu showed the police where the dead body was as well as the knife used to commit the murder,” said Mphele.

He was arrested on November 26 and pleaded guilty to the murder. Along with the 15 years, he also received three years for defeating the ends of justice and a year for possession of a dangerous weapon. Mphele said he was happy with the arrest and conviction and feels this arrest, along with others, would help the public regain confidence in the SAPS.

In a separate case, Det Const Nomsa Chabangu led an investigation that led to the arrest of Bongane Ndimande for the attempted murder of his friend, Koketso Baloyi. Ndimande was arrested and sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment in May for stabbing Baloyi in October 2019.
