VSBAV takes National fight against Gender-Based Violence

The Vosloorus Spruitview Business against Crime (VSBAC) will embark on a 572km awareness walk against GBV from Vosloorus to Durban.

The walk, targeting all those affected by GBV. will take place from November 25 and conclude on December 10.
The walk is set to kick off with a stakeholder and media briefing at Vosloorus SAPS at 10am, and then roll into action from Cnr Sithoimela Street and R103.

The three-man team that will partake in the walk includes chairperson of VSBAC Wiseman Langa, Sphiwe Nhlapo and Motsamai Tsotetsi from Vosloorus.

The awareness campaign aims to promote a saver festive season with fewer cases of domestic violence.
Langa said the walk is an extension of VSBAV’s participation in the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children Campaign.

He said they are also going to raise awareness of vandalism of public infrastructure and substance abuse. Vosloorus police spokesman Captain Piet Rossouw said they will be supporting VSBAC’s efforts.

The tree man will be handing out pamphlets to share information on how residents can report cases. Langa said an SMS platform will also be launched through which communities can send messages of support and suggestions.

“These messages will be talking to government and in early February they will be printed and physically presented to the President,” he said.
