On November 19 at AME Church in Vosloorus, Capt Mabusha Phillip Maake was remembered by the Vosloorus SAPS, CPF and his family with a memorial service.

The detective was shot and killed by unknown assailants in front of his yard in Kwa-Thema on November 15.

Vosloorus SAPS station commander Brig Themba Denge said they were devastated on Sunday evening when they heard Maake had been murdered. Denge described Maake’s death as a great loss for the whole of Vosloorus because he added value to the area.

“It is a loss we all feel, but God is with us, we will survive,” said Denge.

Detective Commander Col Solly Phago, who worked closely with the deceased, said Maake was a very brave man. He worked hard to stop the murder cases reported at the hostel in Vosloorus.

“The captain was a people’s person. He was a very strict person who knew what he wanted. I don’t remember Maake ever refusing work, he was always ready to serve the people,” said Phago.

A close friend and colleague, Capt Ndzinisa, shared his memories and best moments with Maake.

“He was not much of a talker, but he was like a father because he was able to teach. He made time to meet with the youngsters to help and guide them. He led by example and called out those who did wrong,” said Ndzinisa.

Maake will be laid to rest on November 21 in Ga-Mashashane, Utjane Village in Limpopo.
