Meyiwa murder case continues to baffle

This is six years after he was shot and killed on the night of October 26, 2014.

Several Mzamo Acres residents in Vosloorus have voiced their displeasure about the failure of police to solve former Bafana Bafana and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa’s murder.

This is six years after he was shot and killed on the night of October 26, 2014.

Of those who agreed to speak to Kathorus MAIL about the incident, known as the shame of Mzamo Acres, did so only on condition of anonymity and refused to have their faces photographed.

“You have to understand that by speaking about Senzo, I could be exposing my life to danger and even death,” admitted a middle-aged man, who said his name is Thomas Mlangeni.

Mlangeni said he found the many loopholes in the murder puzzling.

He shared his sentiments with the murdered footballer’s cousin, Siyabonga Miya, who refuted the robbery claim the night Meyiwa was shot and killed inside the home of his girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo.

“I’m too scared to comment. My honest views and opinion are based on the same facts given to the Meyiwa family,” explained Mlangeni.

There are reports that the Meyiwa family know who had pulled the trigger.

Other residents also said they believe the robbery motive was just too convenient to be true. Miya also reportedly made a sensational claim on an online news network and was quoted that there were no robbers who shot Meyiwa.

Miya mentioned the name of one of the people presents inside the house that evening as Meyiwa’s killer.
Speaking to journalists outside the Meyiwa home in Umlazi recently, police minister Bheki Cele threw a spanner in the alleged botched robbery allegation. He told journalists the murder investigation was uncovering more about the killing of Meyiwa.

Cele said: “The investigations are not confirming it was a robbery gone wrong, but they are also not very conclusive that it was a hit.”

Five suspects appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on October 26, which also happened to be the sixth anniversary of Senzo’s death. Even more puzzling was the claim by both AfriForum’s Gerrie Nel and members of the Meyiwa family knowing the identity of Meyiwa’s killer.

“We feel fairly confident that our involvement has put a renewed focus on the investigation,” said Nel.

But what still puzzles the residents of Mzamo Acres is if the killer is known, why has he or she not been arrested?
Police commissioner Gen Khehla Sitole mentioned the discovery of the murder weapon was a crucial piece of evidence in the investigation.
