Teboho ma-Million squanders R1-million in six months

The story of Teboho ma-Million, the young man who blew R1-million in less than six months, stands out like a sore thumb as an indictment against the country’s education system and the financial illiteracy of our youth.

A road accident turned into a financial windfall that made him an instant millionaire when the Road Accident Fund (RAF) paid out a staggering R1-million.

During a recorded interview which circulated on social media, Teboho attested to his rags-to-riches-and-back-to-rags fairy tale.

Just like Cinderella, Tehobo described how he found himself living in luxury in a world of endless spending and pleasing a contingent of groupies. Looking back on his six-month extravagant spending madness which brought him back to poverty, Teboho told reporters the only thing he regrets about his brief millionaire status was the speed with which his fortune fizzled, leaving him penniless again.

The township’s bush telegraph has it that during his struggling days, Teboho was a known and confirmed bachelor of note. Almost every girl in the neighbourhood seemed to not care about the local “vuil-pop” whose status had been relegated to that of a persona non-grata.

Rumour also has it that Teboho had few friends when days were dark. This was long before the suffix “ma-Millions” was added to his name. When his story is told, and depending on who is narrating it and who you prefer to believe, all the narrators described him as a loner who never had a girlfriend.

But as soon as Teboho was out of hospital and recuperating at home, his family blamed local so-called gold diggers who were already making their presence felt. Within a few days after the RAF cheque landed in his hands, Teboho painted the town red.

Soon, he had a girlfriend. Witnesses close to the couple claim they would often spend a whopping R25 000 during a single outing. There are also those who attested that the young man was obsessed with importing expensive sneakers.

A relative told the media while the millionaire had a series of different brands of expensive sneakers, he had no wardrobe in which to keep his expensive shoes and slept on an old mattress given to him by a relative.

He also did not consider buying even a simple four-roomed house. Today, Teboho ma-Million is a millionaire no more. It took him a mere 180 days to squander all of his money.

What a boykie!
