Department of Health imposters defraud Katlehong family

The women told the family the R250 certificate would qualify their business to be fumigated and sanitised by the Department of Health.

Katlehong SAPS is searching for two coloured women who are allegedly defrauding local spaza shop owners in Katlehong by claiming to be working for the Department of Health.

They apparently verify and issue business permits for lockdown and helping small businesses qualify for Covid-19 compliance regulations.

The Tshalala family told Kathorus MAIL they had just started operating a spaza shop in Twala Section. On September 17, the family said they were visited by two women carrying folders and pamphlets.

“They caught us off guard when they demanded we produce documents for the business in order to qualify for a Covid-19 compliant business certificate.

“When we told them we were still in the process of applying, one of the women told me not to bother because for a fee of just R250 they could provide us with a licence,” explained Tshalala.

The women told the family the R250 certificate would qualify their business to be fumigated and sanitised by the Department of Health.

“They also told me that just like all other businesses in the townships, we would also receive a free regular supply of a variety of Covid-19 services in the store every month,” explained Nomthandazo Tshalala.

Nomthandazo described one of the two women is between the ages of 20 to 30 and slender, while the older woman is estimated to be between 40 and 50 years.

Capt Lesetja Mathobela of the Katlehong North SAPS appeals to members of the community who may know something about the identities of the duo to call 011 960 0023.
