Two men burn to death as fire rages through Angelo

The cause of the fire is still under investigation

Two bodies were found in a burnt-out shack in Angelo informal settlement on September 27 following a fire that engulfed about 16 shacks in the area.

According to William Ntladi, district manager media liaison for DEMS, after extinguishing the blaze, the charred bodies of two males were discovered under one of the rubble.

“Emergency services firefighters were alerted of a multiple shack fire just after 11pm. Upon arrival, 16 shacks were engulfed by the blaze while residents frantically tried to extinguish the blaze and others moved their belongings to safety,” Ntladi said.

Ntladi said offensive fire attack was initiated to contain the blaze from spreading to the rest of the shacks by using three fire attack hoselines from fire engines.

“The scene was then handed over to the SAPS who were on scene at the time to start with their investigations and arrangements to remove the remains to an appropriate facility,” Ntladi said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
