Man allegedly killed by mob justice

The man was stabbed several times and left on the street.

A man in his mid-30s, who was recently found by the police in a pool of blood in the middle of Mashikane Street, Katlehong, turned out to be a victim of mob justice.

According to Katlehong North SAPS media liaison officer Capt Leseja Mathobela, police were told the dead man had been robbing members of the public with a firearm. Mathobela told Kathorus MAIL before police arrived, the man was stabbed several times and left on the street.

The firearm, which had its serial number filed off and loaded with five live bullets, was found next to his body. Mathobela confirmed there were no shots fired.

Katlehong North SAPS station commander Col Raymond Buthelezi has condemned this act by the community. He urged the community to report any criminal activities to make the area safe for everyone.

Meanwhile, police are also still calling on victims of gender-based violence to break the silence and report it to the police.
