SOJO Christmas in July

“We couldn’t have been more honoured to be in the presence of these amazing people who go over and beyond the call of duty. We stand strong because we stand together.”

In a time such as this, when the general news is rather glum, South of Joburg Business and Tourism (SOJO) thought the show must go on.

No pandemic, virus, Covid-19, conspiracy or any other form of fear would stop SOJO from having a party fund-raiser.

On July 31, SOJO had the privilege of taking their traditional annual Christmas in July event to a new dimension and delivered a Party in a Box to two charities in the South of Joburg.

The children at Look Forward Creativity Centre and Children’s Haven in The Hill decorated their play area with a Christmas tree, tinsel on the walls and Christmas table cloths. All got ready for the Christmas in July Party in a Box, which consisted of a pizza for each child and staff member sponsored by Gino’s Pizzeria Restaurant, cupcakes and a Christmas cake sponsored by Mall of the South, and a toy and bubbles in a personalised gift bag. The children and staff danced and sang.

“It was such an honour to be able to bring some joy to the children and staff today,” enthused Nicky Vakaloudis, CEO of SOJO. “It is important that we continue to work towards helping others, especially during this difficult time.”

At noon, SOJO was warmly welcomed at Stepping Stone Hospice in Alberton. This NPO provides palliative care for terminally ill patients who have created a home away from home.

So much love and care was shown by CEO Tersia Burger and all her staff. They were touched by the 30 blankets sponsored by Rotary 101 Joburg South, the spaghetti bolognaise donated by Gino’s Pizzeria Restaurant to all the patients and staff, and cupcakes and a Christmas cake sponsored by the Mall of the South.

A Christmas tree was decorated under the lapa in the garden surrounded by rose bushes in memory of loved ones.

“We couldn’t have been more honoured to be in the presence of these amazing people who go over and beyond the call of duty. We stand strong because we stand together,” said Nicky.

SOJO thanks all sponsors who bought tickets towards this event and made it possible to bring sunshine, love and cheer in the midst of a confused and troubled world.
