Katlehong men face murder trial in Mpumalanga

The community of Katlehong South is baffled by the trial of five local men who will appear in the Amersfoort Magistrate's Court in Mpumalanga on a charge of murder.

The accused, all of them in their mid-20s, have been linked to the killing of 25-year-old Katlehong South taxi owner Xolani Pefect Zulu. Zulu’s body was found by a farmer in a shallow grave on his agricultural land in Mpumalanga.

The four suspects were arrested in different parts of Katlehong on April 5, 2020, following a probe by Katlehong SAPS detectives into the disappearance of the missing taxi owner.

the family reported him missing to the police when he failed to return home after leaving with one of the accused.

According to the Katlehong SAPS, Zulu was reported to have been last seen by his 22-year-old fiancée on the evening of March 18. She told police Zulu left home with a known male immediately after he arrived home from work just after 8pm that evening.

Zulu’s nephew, Siyabonga Zulu, confirmed this to Kathorus MAIL.

Katlehong police told Kathorus MAIL a farmer outside Amersfoort found Zulu?s body buried on his farm and reported the matter to the local police. The police arrived on the scene with a team of pathologists and the body was ferried to the local government mortuary. Six days after Zulu’s disappearance, the Katlehong SAPS received a complaint about a missing person.

After an interview with the missing man?s family and the information they gathered, detectives were able to piece together information which led to the questioning of a number of suspects believed to have been the last to see the missing taxi owner. The trial continues.
