#WinterIsComing: Tambo Memorial moms, newborns need essentials

The hospital is in desperate need of babygrows and winter necessities to continue to help mothers with their newborn babies

The lockdown might have bought South Africa to standstill, but it will not stop the Tambo Babies Boksburg from making a difference the community.

Tina Moolman, from the NPO, said that they are now assisting mothers of newborn babies in areas such as Boksburg North and Reiger Park.

They are desperately in need of babygrows and winter necessities to continue to help these mothers with their babies.

“We would really appreciate it if people could donate birth to three-month-old babygrows or other items that could help mothers who just gave birth,” said Moolman. “Wool donations are also welcome as a lot pensioners would like to knit or crochet items for underprivileged people but don’t always have enough wool to do so.”

Moolman said no contribution is too small.

“So many people in our community are really struggling to make ends meet. The lockdown has had a dire effect on the economy and it will not get better anytime soon,” she explained.

The organisation handed out 51 hampers despite the fact that they are not allowed to distribute to the Tambo Memorial Hospital, where they usually help mothers, at the moment.

“Unfortunately, we’re unable to visit the hospital during lockdown. We’re still waiting for the hospital to confirm when we will be allowed to visit them or when we can leave the donations at the gate,” said Moolman.

“At this stage we’re delivering the necessities to needy people in the community with the help of Kuselo Child and Youth Care Services. “We’re not going to stop making donations. I’m just not used to not going out of my way to help others. Not even a pandemic will stop us!”

Moolman said anybody in need of assistance from Tambo Babies may contact her on 073 345 1419 and she will help as far as possible.
