Car theft suspect caught red-handed in Sunward Park linked to other cases

The suspect was found to be out on bail on a case related to vehicle theft

Boksburg police investigations revealed that a suspect they recently arrested on suspicion of trying to steal a car is linked to a recent spate of vehicle thefts in Boksburg.

After a series of car thefts across the Boksburg policing precinct, EMPD officers caught the man red-handed trying to steal a Mahindra bakkie parked on the corner of Duiker and Jaguar streets, in Sunward Park, on April 21.

The suspect was charged with attempted vehicle theft.

“The investigating officer established that the accused was out on bail and a previous case of attempting to steal a car is pending in court,” said station spokesperson Const Ntsako Ledwaba.

The state then opposed his bail application on May 11 and he was remanded in custody. The accused is expected to return to court on May 18.

Police management thanked their officers for continued good work, despite the challenging Covid-19 climate.

“This shows our commitment to tackling organised crime and vehicle thefts in our policing precinct,” said Ledwaba.
