ANC Ekurhuleni caucus responds to food parcel allegations against ward councillors

The African National Congress (ANC) Ekurhuleni Caucus has issued a statement against the accusations on the distribution of food parcels by ward councillors, on May 5.

The ANC Ekurhuleni caucus has issued a statement against the accusations on the distribution of food parcels by ward councillors. ”

“We want to re-state that ward councillors are not involved in the distribution of food parcels coming from the national or provincial department of the Department of Social Development, nor from the Ekurhuleni Covid-19 Food Bank,” read the statement.

“Ours is to ensure oversight and, on the same note, councillors are encouraged to assist in their private and personal capacity where it is critically necessary.

“We commend mayor Mzwandile Masina and his collective for the responsive action on the establishment of the food bank.”

The caucus is calling on the food bank to continue prioritising the neediest households.

“Thus far, we are satisfied with the manner in which the food bank has been operating.

“As pronounced by the mayor, it is a single distribution point and we further urge business, organised formations and any other individuals to make their contribution by donating to the food bank.

“We also express our gratitude to all, individuals, NGOs, churches and businesses for their noble gesture and support this far.

“Our commitment to good governance and clean administration is a standing commitment.”
