Tips for celebrating mum during lockdown

Spoil mom on Sunday.

When we were younger, our mother’s hearts melted at the sight of a scribbled “Happy Mother’s Day”, even on a dirty piece of paper.

But the older we get, the greater the expectation.

Well, the lockdown regulations may have dampened the mood just a little.

This is especially tricky if you do not live with your mother.

According to the regulations of level four of lockdown, recreational visits are still prohibited.

But do not for one second assume that the woman who ‘gave you life’ thinks Mother’s Day is cancelled.

Here are a few ways to celebrate Mother’s Day while in quarantine:

Tip 1: Be the first one to call her on Sunday morning.

Tell her how much you wish you were with her. You can add some tears to sniffles to make it sound more convincing. Give her a chance to ask you all the ‘silly’ questions about your life that you always seem to avoid.

Tip 2: Have a tailor-made mask created for her.

This will give you an opportunity to personalise it, to have it in her favorite colour or fabric. Or have her name on it.

Tip 3: Organise a virtual party and include your siblings.

There are a few applications that can help everyone forget how far they are from each other, for a minute. Invite a few people who would love to spend some time with you and your mom online.

Tip 4: Have a meal delivered for her.

Most mothers would love to take a break from cooking, even just for one meal. If you can, buy her her favourite meal. To make it extra special, get food delivered for yourself as well, so you both can have the meal at the same time.

Tip 5: Buy her a gift online.

Some online stores have permits to deliver goods during lockdown. Buy your mother something that you know she will love and have it delivered to her. Do not forget to tell her how much you love her in the card.

Bottomline is, use this time to celebrate your mother. Do what you can to remind her how much she means to you.
