Men nabbed for selling cigarettes worth R100 000 illegally

The Germiston SAPS Task Team apprehended six suspects for contravening the Disaster Management Act (Covid-19 Act).

While on patrol in the Germiston CBD on Thursday, members of the Germiston SAPS Task Team received information that members of the public were lining up to enter a block of flats in High Road.

The officers rushed to the scene to investigate.

“When they arrived they found six suspects selling different cigarettes and e-cigarettes,” said Const Maxwell Mabunda, communications officer for the Germiston police.

“The suspects were arrested for contravening the Disaster Management Act (Covid-19 Act).

“The cigarettes and e-cigarettes confiscated were valued at approximately R100 000.”

The suspects were detained at the Germiston Police Station pending their appearance in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.

“We are appealing to the community to respect the rules and regulations of lockdown,” said Mabunda.
