Man allegedly burns girlfriend’s shack to the ground

Primrose police apprehend suspect on a charge of arson in Primrose.

A Makause informal settlement woman recently opened a case of arson against her 42-year-old boyfriend.

She told officers at the Primrose Police Station that her boyfriend had allegedly come home drunk on the night of the incident.

“She claimed she knew he was going to assault her, so to avoid the conflict she decided to go to her neighbour’s house,” explained Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for the Primrose police.

“The suspect allegedly went to the shack and called for the victim.

“The neighbour refused to open the door for him.

“He allegedly then threatened to go and burn the complainant’s shack to the ground.”

After some time the suspect left.

“At around 3am the complainant was called to her shack, which was on fire,” said Maome.

“The total damage of the fire was R15 000.”

Police launched a manhunt for the suspect.

He was traced and arrested on a charge of arson.

He has since appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court, where his case was postponed for plea and trial.
