Things to keep you busy during lockdown

Here are some suggestions to keep you occupied during lockdown.

With the lockdown continuing, cabin fever might be setting in for a few of you.

While the outside world might not be accessible, there are still several indoor activities to keep you entertained.

Here are some things you and your family can do during lockdown.

Online libraries

Reading is still a pastime enjoyed by many and the perfect activity to partake in when in lockdown.

One issue for readers is that by this point you might have already read through your own supply of books and with the libraries and bookstores closed, you think this must be it.

Well, fear not as online libraries are the answer to your literary needs.

Collections like open library allow you to borrow electronic copies of books for a limited amount of time.

This includes both classic masterpieces and modern gems that are just a click away.

Take up chess

Chess is one of the world’s oldest sports and a game loved all over the world.

With the advent of the internet, the ease of learning and playing chess with others has increased dramatically.

Several websites exist dedicated to chess, providing a platform to play against people from all over the world.

Aside from the fun of chess as a board game, the value of chess as a mental exercise to stimulate your mind is huge and a great boon to keep your mind occupied during lockdown.

Colouring in

While feeling trapped, you might be on the lookout for some way to release your creative side.

An easy outlet for the creative ones among us are colouring books.

If you don’t have a book available, a simple Google search will show you hundreds of images that can be printed and then coloured in.

For those with children, this is a perfect way to keep them busy for a while.

Learn a new language

South Africa is unique among the countries of the world in that we have 11 official languages.

Learning a new language is something that takes time and during the lockdown you have the opportunity.

For families this can be a very fun exercise, as learning to speak a language together is both more effective and enjoyable.

Take some time to learn the names of everything in your house in one of our beautiful languages that you do not know yet.

Once the lockdown is called off, you can then connect with even more of your fellow South Africans.
