Another employee at Retail Park tests positive for Covid-19

The company confirmed that it took swift action immediately when the employee became ill.

Dis-Chem announced that one of its staff members at Retail Park has tested positive for coronavirus on April 11.

According to Lizeth Kruger, Dis-Chem’s national clinic manager, the staff member in question immediately alerted his manager and has been self-isolating at home.

“The store was closed on April 11 and a professional cleaning service, complete with staff in hazmat suits, was brought in to thoroughly deep clean the whole shop,” she said in a statement.
The store reopened on April 14.

Employees working closely with the staff member have been tested and are being monitored on an ongoing basis for symptoms. Those who have been in close contact with the ill colleague are now self-isolating.

“In fact, Dis-Chem has been screening all employees and checking temperatures every morning for the past few weeks as an added safety precaution. All precautionary measures regarding staff hygiene, health and safety and store sanitising will remain in place,” said Kruger.

This publication also previously reported on April 6 that an employee at the Checkers store in Retail Park tested positive for Covid-19.

Shoprite Group confirmed the case, stating the store was immediately closed after the employee tested positive and a professional decontamination company was brought in to sanitise and deep clean the store before it reopened after inspection by the Department of Health.

All employees in the store have been screened and those who had close contact with the infected person are now self-quarantining for 14 days.

According to Checkers, the employee, who was last seen in the store on April 4, is recovering in hospital.
