Man allegedly attempts to leave store without paying

Primrose police apprehended an 18-year-old suspect on a charge of shoplifting.

The Primrose police arrested an 18-year-old man on a charge of shoplifting last Saturday.

The arrest was made at a store in Rietfontein Road, Primrose, after the store’s security guard called police to the scene.

“The security guard told officers he noticed the man moving around the store acting suspiciously,” said Sgt Styles Maome, communications officer for Primrose police.

“When the man saw he was being watched he proceeded to the tills with his items, as if to pay.

“However, he allegedly placed the items in his jacket pocket and passed the cashier.

“The security guard stopped him, searched him and asked him for his proof of purchase for the items he found, which he was unable to provide.”

He was handed over to police, without injury, and taken to the Primrose Police Station.

He will be held at the station pending his appearance in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court.
