Mncunukelwa receives four life sentences for multiple murder

Mongezi Mncunukelwa, who escaped custody twice, received four life sentences for multiple murders.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Gauteng, Lt Gen Elias Mawela, welcomed the four life sentences handed down to convicted murderer Mongezi Mncunukelwa in the Palm Ridge High Court recently.

Mawela further applauded the police officers who worked hard on the case.

“I commend the officers who worked enthusiastically and with zeal to ensure that this heartless murderer is permanently removed from our society,” Mawela said.

Mncunukelwa was found guilty of four counts of murder, as well as possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

He was sentenced to life for each count of murder and a further three years for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Four co-accused Sanele Magida, Paseka Mahloromela, Vuyolethu Kilani and Mkhululi Mahlangu who appeared alongside Mncunukelwa were all found guilty of tampering with the crime scene and were each sentenced to seven years direct imprisonment.

Mncunukelwa was found guilty of the 2017 murders of Peter Pholle, Welcome Godlo, Sithandile Ngungwana and Sifiso Msibi.

Mncunukelwa’s co-accused reportedly removed the bodies and dumped them in a nearby open veld

Mncunukelwa later escaped twice from lawful custody.

First he escaped from the Johannesburg Prison with 15 other awaiting prisoners in January 2018. He was rearrested.

He then escaped again from the Johannesburg High Court in December 2018, but he was once again rearrested.
