Katlehong SAPS pounce on criminals in their precinct

The Katlehong police shared their weekend arrest statistics.

The second weekend of lockdown was busy for the Katlehong police.

Officers from the Katlehong police’s Crime Prevention Unit, detectives from the Katlehong Police Station, members of the EMPD and members of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) took to the streets of Katlehong in several weekend operations.

The operations were held throughout the precinct between April 3 and 5, and led to the arrest of 21 suspects.

This is according to the latest arrest statistics released by the Katlehong Police Station.

The suspects were charged with various offences.

Charges included contravention of the Disaster Management Act (Covid-19 Act), assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, common assault, malicious damage to property, house break-in and theft, possession of suspect stolen property, theft, shoplifting, possession of a stolen cellphone and possession of drugs.

All of the arrested suspects were held at the Katlehong Police Station pending their appearance in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.

Katlehong SAPS acting station commander Col Phakama Gcaza thanked everyone who contributed to the arrests.

“Your presence in our area has shown a decrease in other serious crimes,” she said.
