Home Sweepers Football Club celebrates 81 years

One of the oldest football clubs in Vosloorus, Home Sweepers Football Club (HSFC), celebrated its 81st anniversary on March 7 at the club headquarters in Extension Two, Vosloorus.

The ceremony was well attended by many, including current players and their parents, as well as those who played for the team many years ago. Players who have died were also remembered during the ceremony.

Meshack Mabaso, one of the three club directors, said the purpose of the day was to thank the children for their dedication to the sport.

“These children are very dedicated. There are times where they come to training even on rainy days. This shows a high level of dedication, which is why they have improved so much,” Mabaso said.

He added that HSFC is not just a soccer team, but a family where players will assist each other if they have problems.

Mabaso also thanked sponsors – Vosloorus Boksburg District Taxi Association, Panda Sports Wear and Shongololo Printers – for their contribution in making the event a success.

All the players present, including those of Ghetto Sport Technologies (GST), which fall under the same umbrella as HSFC, received awards for their dedication to their respective sporting codes.

“GST has different sporting activities, including netball and athletics. The athletics team has participated in cross-country tournaments a number of times,” said Sipho Zikalala, another club director.

Club legends shared the stage to tell the club success stories in order to motivate the current players.

Joseph Ndala, the third director of the club, said very few players make it to the PSL.

“May you all be part of those who do make it to PSL. But rest assured, if you are part of this team you will be successful in life because here we teach all the players to grow up responsibly,” said Ndala, who added that lawyers, teachers, doctors, and lecturers are part of the team.

At the end of the ceremony, champagne was popped and the cake was cut.
