Pair of female kidnappers on the prowl in Kathorus

Katlehong police are looking for two female kidnappers who prowl the streets of Kathorus, targeting teenage girls and young women between the ages of 13 and 25.

Two female victims reported to police they were offered a lift in a sedan driven by two women. They told the police this was after the women in the sedan asked them for directions.

The two, who, according to police, were picked up on different days, described how they were driven to a house in Phumula, but managed to escape. The two victims explained to police they glimpsed several other girls of different age groups who seemed to be staying in the house.

They told police they ran away because they were scared they would be trafficked or turned into prostitutes. While Katlehong police are determined to find the house in Phumula, neither of the victims can remember the way there.

“We want to make the public aware of the risks of accepting a lift from strangers, as it can be very dangerous,” said Const Sivenkosi Mtwa, communications officer for the Katlehong police.

Mtwa said detectives are investigating the two attempted abductions and all efforts are being made to locate the house and find out more about the place. In the meantime, he urged the public, both men and women, to be careful at all times.
