ANC caucus accounts to the communities of Wards 60 and 103

As part of an accountable government, the ANC Ekurhuleni Caucus delivered a service delivery report to more than 1 500 residents of Ward 60 at Ke Ditselana Cultural Village in Vosloorus and Ward 103 at Palm Ridge Community Hall on February 11.

Through the programme, Taking Caucus to the People, the purpose was to enforce a strong political oversight as the caucus monitor and assess service delivery challenges within these areas.

In his address at Ke Ditselana Cultural Village, Ekurhuleni chief whip Clr Jongizizwe Dlabathi warned against the illegal occupation of land in the area.

“We warn and condemn those individuals who deliberately occupy land illegal with an aim to undermine government work. This administration is on the trajectory of building 100 000 houses and 59 serviced stands for all, across Ekurhuleni region. Therefore, our people must be vigilant and guard against those who attempt to undermine the work of government,” said Dlabathi.

The caucus, through these public meetings, is then enabled to articulate a government programme, strengthen stakeholder relations through mass mobilisation, and sectoral engagement. Caucus further encouraged effective, fair and just public participation by our communities on matters of service delivery.

Through the caucus’ political oversight, a number of service delivery issues were registered. They included number of streets that were not tarred, blocked sewer drainage system, poor electricity supply, human settlements, poor grass-cutting in most of the open veld, and lack of street light maintenance.

“As a responsive government, we are confident that the City’s executive will attend to these service delivery challenges as they are already reported and receiving the necessary attention. Furthermore, ANC Ekurhuleni Caucus is well aware of the Integrated Development Plan (IDP) priorities that have been identified in these areas of which some are of a long-term nature because they need a massive budget allocation,” he said.

Meanwhile, in ensuring the cause becomes responsive, these are some of the Ward 60 service delivery achievements:

• Construction of 35 RDP houses in Moleleki Extension One and Two; a total of 135 housing units.

• Re-blocking of Riverside Informal Settlement.

• Sixty more chemical toilets were erected at Riverside and Sphamandla informal settlements.

• Construction of new community park in Moleleki.

• Construction of Mphalane Street in Vosloorus Ext 20.

• Installation of new high mast light in Vosloorus Ext 20 park.

• Paving of Venues Road between Moleleki Ext One and Two for a distance of 500m.

Ward 103 registered the following service delivery achievements:

• Construction of Palm Ridge Taxi Rank in Palm Ridge.

• Construction of Phuthaditshaba Taxi Rank in Kwanele Proper.

• Construction of a new community park.

• Upgrading of water reservoir in Palm Ridge.

• Beautification of Palm Ridge entrance at the corner of Palm Ridge and K-146.

The City of Ekurhuleni’s executive mayor, Clr Mzwandile Masina, Dlabathi and councillors visited the still under-construction R63-million Abram Hlophe Primary School in Katlehong South.

“The commitment to serve the people of Ekurhuleni is a standing commitment,” he concluded.
