Death still hangs like a dark cloud over the heads of our women and children

I am a parent and I want to raise my concerns to other readers of Kathorus MAIL about the killing of women and babies in the townships.

Hardly a day goes by without reading or watching a report about an abused child, a missing child or a child whose lifeless body has been found in a shallow grave.

What is even more worrying is that most of these tragedies often happen around the same time as anti-violence campaigns are in progress.

More women and children were molested, abused and some even killed during the recent 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children than at any other time of the year. And as we move into the new year, these acts of violence coupled with several murders against women and children have continued unabated at the cost of countless innocent lives.

Abuse in all its forms on the rise

This anti-violence campaign has been going on now every December for several years, but the system and method of dealing with the problem still remain the same. Could this be the reason why regardless of all the continuous efforts to highlight this evil that has engulfed our people, death still hangs like a dark cloud over the heads of our women and children?
