Christmas comes early for Kwanele

After being deserted by his parents immediately after birth in December 2006, Kwanele Ndzimande (13) still has to come to terms with being raised by only his grandmother while his parents are still alive.

Ndzimande is one of the unlucky children in this country who made the statistics of being born and deprived of his right of being raised by both his parents.

Each and every December comes and goes, children went to shopping malls with their parents to buy clothes for Christmas but the 13-year-old, who is in Grade Seven at Khayelihle Primary School in Vosloorus, lives that live only in dreams.

Mama Danisile Sishange, the founder of Danisile’s Children Home from Mabuya Park in Vosloorus, told this publication she saw Ndzimande suffering from his grandmother and thought about making this December very special for the young man.

“I wanted to make the day special for Ndzimande by organising a special birthday celebration for the boy who turned 13-years-old on December 12. I wanted to do this for him and then collaborate with other needy children from the community. I wanted to make sort of a Christmas party for them,” Sishange said.

His friends from the same street as where he stays were also invited to share the special day with him.

Sishange told Kathorus MAIL it has been her long-overdue dream to organise something so special for destitute children from the community.

“I wanted to collaborate Ndzimande’s day with Christmas Day for the orphans,” Sishange said, who went on to thank Boxer Superstore, Pick n Pay and Roots Butchery for donating food that was cooked on the day, birthday cake for Ndzimande as well as meat.

Sishange said even though the event was not as big as she was expecting it to be, she still believes it was a success.

“There is nothing that puts a smile on my face like seeing destitute children having fun. We might not have reached the level of planning that we have set for this event since the beginning of the year, but the happiness of these children surpasses everything,” said Sishange.

Ndzimande said he has never seen someone as kindhearted as Sishange.

“What she has done for me today, no one else has ever done since I was born. I wish God can keep her longer so more disadvantaged children can benefit from her kindness,” said Ndzimande.

Hearing Ndzimande’s words or praise, Sishange burst into tears of joy.
