Violent criminal sentenced to 13 life terms, 185 years in prison

Rondebult community happy that justice has been served.

The commitment, effort and investigative skills of Sgt Sam Molopyane, from the Elsburg SAPS, paid off when Sibusiso Ndlovu was sentenced in the Gauteng High Court, sitting at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court, to 13 life terms and 185 years in prison on December 10.

Ndlovu was found guilty on 54 counts of violence, including rape, assault, and kidnapping.

“Before sentencing Ndlovu, Judge Ramarumo Monama said December 10 was the last day of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign and that when he had gone through his notes, he realised that the 31-year-old had committed several rapes around this time,” said Const Daphney Phooko, communications officer for the Elsburg SAPS.

“Monama also said that Ndlovu was disrespectful when he walked out during proceedings earlier this month after he was found guilty of the crimes, telling the judge to continue without him.”

“It is trite and cannot be doubted that this country is on the verge of lawlessness,” Monama said.

“I am satisfied that, based on the evidence placed before me, this gentleman is a danger to society.”

Phooko added that after his sentencing, Ndlovu smiled as he walked out of the courtroom.

“The community of Rondebult was very pleased about the outcome and the justice meted out to the accused,” said Phooko.

“The management of the Elsburg SAPS thanks Molopyane for his commitment and the effort he made to ensure that the community is safe and secure by putting the perpetrator behind bars.”
