The kitchen staff made sure guests at the old age home ceremony were fed the best in township cuisine as part of the celebrations in honour of Matlakala Dlamini.
Kathorus MAIL was invited to the Vosloorus Old Age Home on November 29, where one of the township’s oldest resident and founding member of the Vosloorus Old Age Home, 83-year-old Matlakala ‘Tlaki’ Dlamini, was honored by the community, her former colleagues, family members, relatives, friends and peers for her almost 40-year contribution to the welfare of the elderly in the township.
She was born in Wattville, Benoni, on May 7, 1936. In 1964 at the age of 28, Tlaki moved to Vosloorus where she said she became aware of the abuse of the elderly in the township under the apartheid system.
She said it was then that she decided she wanted to do something to alleviate the problems faced by the elderly at the time.

Ousie Tlaki Dlamini’s two childhood friends, 88-year-old Talita Mbuyisa and Louise Taele (83) also attended the event.

Matlakala Dlamini’s friends and peers came from far and wide around Vosloorus all clad in the Old Age Home’s colours to honour their colleague.
Among the guests at the Vosloorus Old Age Home were leaders in the local taxi industry who also came to honour Matlakala Dlamini.
These two friends were part of the large crowd that gathered at the Vosloorus Old Age home during a ceremony to honour the home’s leading co-founder, 83-year-old Matlakala Dlamini.
They came, they sang and made everyone comfortable with their beautiful rendition of a variety of music ranging from church songs to choral and traditional music to the delight of the excited audience.
