DEMS welcomes newly appointed firefighters

City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) emergency division proudly announced the appointment of 50 new firefighters to augment the numbers in different fire stations across the City.

Due to vacant spaces created by promotions and resignations of the work force, the City filled the empty vacancies by absorbing the department’s reserve force members in permanent positions.

They were all given their rank markings and welcomed in the service by the executive manager of operations, Lifty Ngoepe, who stood in for the divisional head emergency services, Mhlengi Makhubalo.

DEMS district manager media liaison officer William Ntladi said the new members’ appointment commenced on November 1 and for the past several days, they all underwent induction and orientation processes.

“With these new appointees, the division will be able to fast-tract the services rendered to the community of Ekurhuleni and beyond. The entire group resonated commitment and dedication in their new role,” said Ntladi.

He added that: “These intakes are in line with the City’s vision to empower the youth, specifically women, in the employment domain.”
