Suspects found with gold

A tip-off by a community member of the led to the arrest of two suspects who were found in possession of gold nuggets and dagga valued at R4 000 inside their shack in Palm Ridge.

According to EMPD media officer, Kobeli Mokheseng, it was the attention of a hawk-eyed member of the community who later notified members of the EMPD’s Drug Law Enforcement Unit after he observed different dubious characters of men and women regularly frequent a particular shack daily in Palm Ridge’s Extension 5.

Then on the afternoon of Saturday, October 19, DLEU Officers responded by raiding the shack and arresting two male suspects aged 19 and 25 years old. The two were found in possession of 9, 42 grams of gold nuggets and 5 wrapped packets of dagga all valued at R3550.

The two were later taken to the Eden Park Police Station where they were charged with possession of dagga and gold nuggets. They are expected to appear in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court soon.

In the meantime, South African Police Services detectives are investigating the origins of the recovered well-polished precious gold rocks.
