Elspark FC holds award ceremony

The Elspark Football Club (EPFC), which played in the Eastern Soccer League, hosted an award ceremony to celebrate its achievement during the 2019 season.

The ceremony, which was attended by players and coaches of different divisions of the club, parents and different media houses, took place at the Elspark Sports Complex on October 12.

According to Efnasi Ndlovu, the chairman of the club, the purpose of the event was to acknowledge the performance of the players throughout the year.

“They did excellent work, so they deserve everything that is happening today.

“I am glad that these players are not only growing on the soccer fields, but they are also growing holistically as our aim is to teach them to be responsible men one day,” said Ndlovu.

He added, “As a team, we are teaching them to be able to understand and respect each other.”

Ndlovu thanked coaches of all the divisions for the work they are doing with the players. He also encouraged parents to continue to support their children.

There were awards for teams as well as individuals.

The u-10 team players, coached by Jan Dladla, were awarded certificates and gold medals for winning the league with 51 points after a total of 19 games played. The u-11 team players were awarded gold medals and certificates for winning the league with 58 points after 22 games and for being runners-up during the cup competition.

The u-13 team, coached by Zandisile Mbadu, finished the league in third position with 45 points after 22 games, and players were awarded with certificates and gold medals.

Although they are occupying the first spot with 40 points in the league, it was still not clear at the time of going to press as to which position EPFC u-15 team will finish at in the league as they were one point ahead of their second-placed opponents. Should they win their last game on October 14, they will be crowned champions of the Eastern Soccer League. They were also awarded gold medals and certificates for their performances.

The u-17 team finished third place with 46 points after 22 games and were awarded with certificates and gold medals.

There were also individual awards for dedicated players, disciplined players, leading goal scorer, most improved player and player of the season.

Leading goal scorer in the u-10 category was Ria Phiri, while the most improved player award went to Khumo Malope. Kgotso Maluleka took home the player of the season award.

In the u-11 category, both the leading goal scorer and player of the season awards went to Ria Phiri, while the most improved player award went to Luvuyo Mbadu.

Lesego Kotelo took home the u-13 leading goal scorer award while the most improved player of the season award was taken by Bongani Zulu. Player of the season went to Simfumene Mkhatshana.

As for the u-15 category, the leading goal scorer award went to Siya Kolane, while Comfort Pule took home the award for the most improved player of the season. Atlehang ‘Spiderman’ Lerutle went away with player of the season award.

The u-17 top goal scorer award went to Bongani Nyathi, while Wativa Mahlawule scooped the most improved player of the season award and Sthe Ndekane took the player of the season award.

Zandisile Mbadu, the u-13 coach, was crowned coach of the season and was given a gift voucher.
