Flying squad police make arrests

A 25-year-old male was arrested by the members of the Germiston Flying Squad in Windmill Park on October 8 for being in possession of a stolen motor vehicle, two unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Warrant officers Victor Masingi and Lucky Shabalala, with Sergeant Lesley Popela, flagged down a white Etios had three occupants on Strand Loper Street in Windmill Park. However, the driver and another passenger jumped out an fled.

The passenger on the back seat remained in the car.

The police found the 25 year-old male in possession of a firearm. A silver Norinco handgun with nine live ammunition was confiscated. The police also found a .32 calibre revolver with the serial numbers filed off and 8 live ammunition.

The police said the revolver was stolen in Ventersloop in 2015. The vehicle was fitted with false number plates which was traced to a reported vehicle theft case on Park Road in April. The man was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

SAPS communications officer for the Germiston Flying Squad Const Ntombikayise Ngcobo said W/O Muzomuhle Hlela and Sgt Bongani Makuleni, with two members of the Graphite Tactical security company, chased and arrested a 35-year-old male old for being in possession of Silver Toyota Hilux double cab bakkie reportedly stolen in Boksburg.

The Hilux bakkie was reportedly stolen by three unknown males who were driving a white RS3 Audi. Members of the squad team received a complaint and saw the bakkie fitting the description. They stopped the stolen bakkie and arrested a male driver.
