Heritage Day celebrated

On September 23, from 10am, the Gauteng Women’s Network and Men for Change from the SAPS celebrated Heritage Day at Rhodes Park, Cleveland, in Kensington.

On September 23, from 10am, the Gauteng Women’s Network and Men for Change from the SAPS celebrated Heritage Day at Rhodes Park, Cleveland in Kensington.

Members wore different attire to represent their cultures. Each person, representing each culture, was called on stage to sing and dance to their cultural music.

“Heritage Day is a South African public holiday celebrated on September 24. On this day, South Africans are encouraged to celebrate their cultures and the diversity of their beliefs and traditions in the wider context of a nation that belongs to its entire people.

“As a country, we have 11 official languages and so many diverse cultures. On this day we celebrate our diversity and what makes us unique as a country. Our rich and varied cultural heritage has profound power to help build our nation,” said Gauteng Women’s Network corporate communications officer Capt Buyisile Mvelase.

Each district was asked to donate non-perishable goods.

“The donation of non-perishable goods that was requested from each district was handed over to the volunteers of Victim Empowerment Centre at the station,” said Mvelase.
