South African Police Service Provincial Women’s Network support people with disability

The keynote address was delivered by Maj Gen Anna Mateisi, deputy chairperson of Gauteng Provincial Women's Network and ambassador against domestic violence.

Every year on the first Friday of September, South Africans are encouraged to dress differently and to wear a casual day sticker to show their support for persons with disabilities.

On September 6, the SAPS Provincial Women’s Network celebrated Casual Day in style at Wild Waters in Boksburg.

Each district from the province dressed in their different colours.

At the entrance guests were given a Casual Day sticker and hand towels.

The event was about welcoming spring and honouring members with disabilities in the SAPS and outside the organisation.

The token of appreciation, which included hand towels and other gifts, were handed to all the disabled members.

Gifts were also delivered to those who couldn’t make it to the event.

The keynote address was delivered by Maj Gen Anna Mateisi, deputy chairperson of Gauteng Provincial Women’s Network and ambassador against domestic violence.

Women’s Network helps disadvantaged families in the townships and gives back to the community by donating food parcels and clothes, and encourages the establishment of vegetable gardens.

Mateisi said, “Women must know and understand that they are strong in their own way.

“We are God’s masterpiece. Women’s Network encourages the members in the police to donate in any form.

“Not only does the organisation raise funds, but it also raises awareness on the challenges, as well as the potential of the community in a fun way.”

Mateisi also touched on gender-based violence (GBV).
