Two arrested after tip-off to police

Zonkizizwe police cornered and arrested two male suspects on the streets in Zone Three - one for attempted murder and the other for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Communications officer at Zonkizizwe SAPS Sgt Rufus Tema said the arrest happened after a 27-year-old complainant, who had opened an attempted murder case earlier this month, came to report having spotted the suspect in Zone Three.

“The police quickly went to the street mentioned by the complainant, where they arrested the suspect whom the police found relaxed in a car with friends. The police went further to search the other suspect and found one of them with a firearm.

“Upon failing to show the police a licence to possess the firearm, he was immediately arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition,” said Tema”, said Tema.

The firearm will be subjected to forensic examination to determine whether or not it was used in the commission of any crime.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear in the Palmridge Magistrate’s Court soon.
