Tshabalala said the pageant is all about empowering women hence it takes the whole year.

Nokuthula Tshabalala (20), from Rockville in Vosloorus, is a public management student at the Sedibeng College, and an Empress South Africa finalist.

“I saw a post on Facebook about Empress South Africa, and how people were commenting about it, and I knew then that I wanted to be a part of it,” Tshabalala said.

Empress South Africa is the first-ever online beauty pageant in the world. It is a national contest with hundreds of contestants from across the country.

Tshabalala said: “The number of the contestants is short-listed as we move to each level.

“It is a point-based system so you need high points to move to another level.

Tshabalala said the pageant is aimed at empowering women.

“We are given challenges that are designed to empower us.

“At the semi-final level we focus on entrepreneurial and business skill. We have a brochure to be distributed on the day of the pageant. We want small businesses to advertise in our brochure, and this will give them media exposure as their business will be advertised on the magazine and social pages,” Tshabalala said

The pageant will be held at Suncoast Casino Barnyard Theatre on December 16.

“To vote for me, please Sms “NokuthulaT”(no spacing) to 35334,” concluded Tshabalala
